How gross pay becomes take-home pay
Gross pay is your salary or hourly rate before anything comes out. Income tax, the Medicare levy and any HELP repayment are then taken out, and what remains is your take-home pay. Employer super goes to your fund on top of your pay.
The take-home pay calculator works through those steps for your income, and the salary after tax pages show the result for common amounts. The minimum wage page gives the current rate before and after tax. Contractors start from an hourly or daily rate, and the contractor pay calculator covers GST, tax and super.
Two arrangements change the income you are taxed on. The salary sacrifice calculator shows the effect of paying part of your salary into super before tax. The salary packaging calculator covers eligible charity and hospital employees.
