How We Calculate Your Take-Home Pay

Each salary page on Aussie Pay Calc uses the official Australian Taxation Office (ATO) rates for the 2025–26 financial year. We calculate income tax using the progressive bracket system, apply the Low Income Tax Offset (LITO) where eligible, and add the 2% Medicare levy to arrive at your total tax. Your take-home pay is your gross salary minus this total tax amount.

The default calculation assumes you are an Australian resident for tax purposes, claiming the tax-free threshold, with no HELP/HECS debt and no salary sacrifice arrangements. Superannuation at the current 12% rate is shown separately as it is paid by your employer on top of your salary.

For a personalised calculation that includes HELP debt repayments, non-resident tax rates, salary sacrifice into super, or the Medicare Levy Surcharge, use our full Australian pay calculator.
